Nene-no-michi

Directions on Google Maps

Stone-paved lane in Kyoto's Higashiyama district, running between Kodai-ji and the Yasaka Shrine end of the Gion hills. Named for Nene, the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who spent her later years at Kodai-ji nearby. Lined with teahouses, craft shops, and machiya walls, and it connects straight into the Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka approach to Kiyomizu-dera — quieter than those two, especially early morning.
